International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated every year on 8th March around the world. It is a focal point in the movement for women’s right. it is vital to the economic, social, and financial wellbeing of women in the world at large.

The theme for IWD 2020 is #EachforEqual, recognizing all of the actions we can take as individuals to challenge stereotypes, fight prejudice and celebrate women’s achievements.

The year 2020 is an important one for gender equality. It is the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platforms for Action, the most advanced blueprint for achieving gender equality in the world.

It is a day to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women, who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities

Koforidua Technical University, Gender Mainstreaming Centre celebrated IWD on 8th March, 2020 with the students of Methodist Girls Senior High School, Mamfe and Okuapemman Senior High School.

The Methodist Girls Senior high school was chosen for the celebration due to its remarkable exploits exhibited by students both internationally and locally in the field of Science Technology Mathematics and Engineering (STEM). One of which was being the winners of the international Robotics Festival 2019 in the USA.

The celebration was marked with an exposition on the 2020 theme: #EachforEqual – An Enabled world is an Equal World, a fishbowl activity on “How we can make an Impact” as young women in our communities, which led to the creation of an IWD pledge wall.

At the end of the program, the students had been well-motivated and fired up to make an impact in the community. The students also identified various mentors they could look up to in their field of study.
